Music Monday: A Change is Gonna Come

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. today, as well as to honor my love for Sam Cooke, today’s Music Monday features “A Change is Gonna Come.” Powerful lyrics, and so timeless.

I had the opportunity to attend Peaceful RevolutionA Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration last weekend at the Worcester Public Library. It was a community event that celebrated the life and lessons of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through live music, spoken word, a video documentry and more. Besides a meal and conversation, music moves me like nothing else. Do you agree?

A Change is Gonna Come

Lyrics

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I’ve been running ever since
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it willIt’s been too hard living but I’m afraid to die
Cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it willI go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me don’t hang around
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
And I say brother help me please
But he winds up knocking me
Back down on my knees

Ohhhhhhhhh…..

There been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long
But now I think I’m able to carry on
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
